Podcast Equipment Checklist for Beginners in Pakistan

You do not need much to start a podcast, and you definitely do not need most of what gear reviews try to sell you. Here is the short list of what matters, roughly in the order it affects how your show sounds.

The core kit

If you are recording at home, this is the minimum that makes a real difference:

  • A decent microphone. This is where your money should go first. A good USB or XLR mic does more for your audio than anything else on this list.
  • Headphones. Closed-back headphones so you can hear problems while recording, not after.
  • A quiet, soft room. Carpets, curtains and a sofa beat a bare room with hard walls. Echo is the most common reason home recordings sound amateur.
  • Recording software. Free tools like Audacity are fine to start. You can upgrade later.

That is enough to publish a clean audio show.

What you can add later

Once you are consistent, these are worth it, in this order: an audio interface or small mixer (if you use an XLR mic), a pop filter and boom arm, a second mic for a co-host or guest, and basic acoustic panels.

What you can skip at the start

Expensive video gear, full lighting kits and a mixing desk are easy to overspend on before you know your show will stick. If you only ever record at home, buy slowly. If you want video, the cost jumps fast, which is covered in our breakdown of what a podcast really costs in Pakistan.

When a studio is the smarter buy

Here is the honest trade-off. A full video setup with video setup, lighting and treatment costs lakhs and takes time to learn. If you want video, or you have guests, booking a studio is usually cheaper and far less hassle, because you only pay for the hours you record. Our studio in Lahore already has the mics, lighting, video setup and crew, and you can see rates on the packages page. For more on the kit a studio runs, read the gear behind a professional podcast.

Frequently asked questions

What is the one thing I should spend on first? The microphone. It affects your sound more than anything else.

Do I need an expensive setup to start? No. A good mic, headphones and a soft room are enough for a solid audio show.

Should I buy gear or use a studio? For audio at home, buy slowly. For video or guests, a studio is usually cheaper and easier.
